The £27.5m Millennium Coastal Park is one of the largest environmental
enhancement projects in Britain, covering 22km of the Llanelli coastline
and incorporating over 2,000 acres of land. Once a reminder of the
legacy of over 200 years of coal and steel production, the coastal
plain has been transformed into a high quality, desirable place to
live and work.
Key features include 200 acres
of conservation area including the Parks Wildfowl & Wetlands
Trust, forests, lakes, and public works of art. There is also a
links-style golf course, executive housing at Sandy Water Park,
and a visitor centre. Plans are also underway for a 11ha mixed use
development at North Dock and upgraded harbour facilities at Bury
Port.
The various elements of the Park
are joined by a continuous footpath and cycleway, forming part of
the Sustrans National Cycle Network, and a number of key land train
links.
