The use of the Internet and intranets not only stimulates fast growing
demands for new software technologies and products, but also provides
a cost-effective means for managing large software development projects.
As part of Wales Centres of Excellence programme, the Centre
for Communications and Software Technologies and MicroCompass Systems,
a Swansea-based software company, have embarked on a series of technical
developments that introduce the e-business concept into the lifecycle
of software development and maintenance. An intranet-based workbench
has been developed for registering, monitoring and controlling the
flow of software development activities. Further developments are
being undertaken to link an Internet-based customer care system into
the workbench, aimed to improve the efficiency and quality of customer
care.
